FoF Manager FAQ

What is Custom Category Classification?▼

FoF Manager offers a function of creating user-defined manager classification systems. It supports two-level categories (strategy and sub strategy) as well as weighted multi-strategies.

Are multi-currency positions supported?▼

Yes. FoF Manager fully supports multi-currency underlying assets. Portfolios are reconciled daily based on EOD exchange rates..

What are supported NAV frequencies?▼

Any regular period frequencies (daily, weekly, monthly etc.) as well as irregular interval NAV entries are supported

Is FX forward hedging supported?▼

Yes. You can hedge multi-currency positions by FX forwards.

Are historical portfolio evaluations supported?▼

FoF Manager supports historical valuation at any given past date as well as incremental valuations between two dates.

Can I define multiple gate redemptions?▼

FoF Manager offers over 30 redemptions terms including early redemptions and up to 3 subsequent redemptions.

Can I use historical portfolio NAV in Risk Shell?▼

FoF Manager is seamlessly integrated with Risk Shell. Actual portfolio historical NAVs can be used across any Risk Shell components for portfolio risk analysis.

Can FoF Manager get data directly from our Administrator?▼

Yes. We offer an option of linking FoF Manager to administrators' data feeds - as a custom development on-demand.

How does portfolio rebalancing work between Risk Shell and FoF Manager?▼

Risk Shell and FoF Manager support two complementary parts of the portfolio rebalancing process. After calculating target portfolio allocations in Risk Shell using portfolio optimization or risk-budgeting models, the proposed allocations can be synchronized with FoF Manager. FoF Manager then calculates the subscriptions and redemptions required to move the current portfolio toward those target allocations. When a portfolio managed in FoF Manager is analyzed historically in Risk Shell, the rebalancing option should be set to “FoF Manager.” This allows Risk Shell to use the actual historical portfolio allocations maintained in FoF Manager rather than applying a theoretical rebalancing assumption.

Unique Features of FoF Manager

Native Support for Hedge Funds, Private Equity, and Traditional Assets▼

FoF Manager is designed to account for alternative and multi-asset portfolios within a single framework. It natively supports hedge funds, private equity, and traditional assets, allowing institutions to maintain a consolidated portfolio view without forcing different asset classes into an unsuitable accounting model.

Advanced Hedge Fund Redemption Modelling with 35+ Liquidity Settings▼

FoF Manager supports complex hedge fund redemption scenarios through more than 35 configurable liquidity-profile settings. These settings allow institutional investors to model the practical liquidity characteristics of individual hedge fund investments, including differing redemption and liquidity terms, rather than treating all fund positions as uniformly liquid.

Dynamic Portfolio Accounting▼

Dynamic mode always works with the most recent portfolio data available to FoF Manager. This provides an up-to-date view of portfolio accounts, exposures, book values, and other supported portfolio information without requiring the user to manually reconstruct the latest portfolio state.

Closed-Period Accounting for Historical Portfolio States▼

Closed Period mode allows an institution to reproduce the portfolio state as of a specified historical date. Accounts, exposures, book values, and other supported portfolio information can therefore be analysed as they existed at that point in time, providing a consistent historical basis for portfolio review and reconciliation.

Incremental Accounting Between Two Dates▼

Incremental mode calculates the change in supported portfolio values between two selected dates. This allows institutions to analyse the incremental movement in accounts, exposures, book values, and other supported portfolio measures without having to reconstruct the complete portfolio history manually.

User-Defined Manager Classification and Categorization▼

FoF Manager allows institutions to create their own manager categorization system and use it in place of, or alongside, classifications supplied by external data vendors. This is particularly important for hedge fund portfolios, where managers can operate across multiple strategies or where external classifications may not adequately reflect the institution's own investment framework.

Asset-Class-Specific Portfolio Views for Family Offices▼

FoF Manager supports family-office portfolios that contain multiple asset classes while allowing users to analyse a specific asset-class portfolio independently. For example, a family office can maintain its complete multi-asset portfolio while separately analysing the hedge fund portfolio, private equity portfolio, or real estate portfolio within the same accounting framework.

Real-Time Portfolio Limit and Threshold Control▼

FoF Manager provides portfolio limit controls that allow institutions to define thresholds for selected portfolio characteristics and check them against current portfolio values. Limits can be established for requirements such as liquidity, strategy exposure, or exposure to an individual manager, enabling users to identify breaches of internally defined portfolio constraints.

Integrated Shadow Accounting and Risk Management in Risk Shell▼

FoF Manager is integrated with Risk Shell, allowing shadow-accounting data to flow into the broader risk-management and portfolio-construction environment. This connects portfolio accounting with risk analysis and portfolio construction, reducing the need to maintain separate analytical representations of the same investment portfolio.

One Shadow Accounting Framework for Alternative and Multi-Asset Portfolios▼

FoF Manager is built specifically for portfolios where traditional accounting systems may not adequately represent alternative investments, complex fund structures, and multi-asset allocations. By bringing these investments into a common shadow-accounting framework, institutions can maintain portfolio accounts, exposures, classifications, liquidity information, and control limits within one environment.
